Procedure for the Management of Academic Internships

Definition and objective

The internship is a mandatory training stay in a collaborating entity, where the student performs observation, participation or collaboration tasks, as well as other academic activities established in the degree report.

In addition, the student must prepare a final internship report or paper.

The total duration of the internship will be 150 hours, of which at least 5% will be devoted to writing the report.

Types of practices

Curricular

Forming part of the curriculum of the master’s or bachelor’s degree.

Extracurricular

Voluntary and not included in the curriculum, but with optional academic recognition.

Requirements for students

  • Be enrolled in an official/proprietary bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • Meet the academic requirements established by the institution (credits passed, academic performance, etc.).
  • Have authorization from the academic tutor or internship supervisor.

Internship management process

Identification of the Offer

  • The academic institution has an internship exchange with collaborating companies.
  • Students may propose new companies for internships, subject to validation.
  • Publication of offers on institutional platforms and official communication channels.

Application and Selection

  • Interested students send their application (CV and motivation letter).
  • The company carries out a selection process (interview, technical test, etc.).
  • Once the student has been selected, the company communicates the decision to BAU’s internship department.

Formalization of the Internship Agreement

  • Signing of the collaboration agreement between the internship entity and BAU (if it does not already exist).
  • Signing of the specific internship agreement between the student, the internship entity and BAU.
  • Definition of the objectives, activities and conditions (duration, schedule, responsible tutor, etc.).

Internship Development

  • The student performs the internship according to the established agreement.
  • Follow-up by the academic tutor and the company tutor.
  • Resolution of incidents, if any.

Evaluation and Closing

  • The student submits an internship report, if required.
  • The company issues an evaluation report on the student’s performance.
  • The academic tutor evaluates the process and awards the grade (if applicable).
  • Administrative closure of the internship file.

Responsibilities

  • Student : Comply with assigned tasks and respect the company’s code of ethics.
  • Internship entity Assign a mentor, provide training and follow up with the student.
  • BAU Internship Department : Facilitating administrative management, monitoring and ensuring the quality of the experience.
